Michele Bachmann; The GOP can do better.

This week Michele Bachmann announced her candidacy for the Presidency of the United States. I really hope that American people are smart enough to dismiss her as a presidential candidate. She should become better informed before she talks about the current administration, US History, Economics and many other subjects.

On Sunday June 26th she was on Meet the Press hosted by Bob Schieffer’ Here’s what she had to say about the President’s release of oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve.

Bachmann: “It’s ironic and sad that the president released all of the oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve because the president doesn’t have an energy policy.”

Here’s the administration’s official announcement, please read.

So basically the oil the President has had released accounts to just over four percent of the amount in the national reserve, far from all as she had stated, as of today she has not corrected her statement.

Here’s another misinformed comment made by Bachmann.

Michele Bachmann claims there has only been one new oil-drilling permit issued since Obama took office. False, in March oh this year President Obama in a March 11th press conference said, ”We’ve approved more than 35 new offshore drilling permits that meet these new safety and environmental standards.” He was just talking about permits issued after the Gulf of Mexico moratorium.

Here’s a link to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, or BOEMRE, report on the “Status of Well Permits and Plans Subject to Enhanced Safety and Environmental Requirements.”

Again she has not corrected her statement.

Here’s another ridiculous statement made by Bachmann in 2005

“Literally, if we took away the minimum wage-if conceivably it was gone-we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.”

When questioned about this comment by George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America, she basically talked around it and did not come out and say she had changed her mind about lowering the minimum wage. I guess she feels that people will take a job no matter how poorly they are paid. Yes there would be more jobs but at very substandard wages. If you have people working at substandard wages how do you expect them to be able help the economy grow if they can’t afford to buy anything.

She also has said that the founding Fathers of our country “worked tirelessly” to end slavery. She must have flunked her American History classes in School. Didn’t Jefferson own slaves plus sire children from Sally Hemings, a slave at Monticello.

Bassett, Blair, Blount, Butler, Carroll, Jenifer, Jefferson, Mason, Charles Pinckney, Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Rutledge, Spaight , Washington and Madison were all Founding Fathers of our Nation who owned slaves. Now I’m not saying they all owned slaves Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, John Adams, Sam Adams and Thomas Paine did not own slaves. Ben Franklin at one time owned a few slaves but he freed them. He also started The Philadelphia Anti Slavery Society.

For Bachmann to say they “worked tirelessly” is a bit of a stretch considering how many owned slaves.

She also has not back down when she spoke of  John Quincy Adams being a Founding Father of the United States. He was a nine year old. He was not old enough to sign the Declaration of Independence. She really needs to go back and read an American History book.

I feel that the GOP could do such much better and of course it’s her right to run. I just hope that come next year’s primaries Republicans will be smarter than to vote for her. Republicans you have choices, much better choices please take advantage of them
